perfect ten {vol.6}

It's 10 minutes before Friday starts and I am feeling the week in every pore. Also, it's been 23 hours since I had sugar, so basically, I'm in goddamn misery. This week was so full at times I felt the water rising up over my nostrils. A three day weekend is within tantalizing reach - I plan on sitting down and accomplishing large swaths of NOTHING AT ALL. I think I need a hobby that isn't electronic. Anybody want a long piece of yarn that I crochet over and over?

all those chunks of bubble gum? yet to be seen.And now, here's 10 links that I loved this week.

still living the dream, guys

Want me to sing you the theme song of the children’s show Super Why currently airing Episodes 1 through infinity on Netflix Canada?

“SUPER READERS – TO THE RESCUE.”

That’s just a taste but rest assured; I can do it all, backwards and forwards.

When I say my kid can get fixated on something and not let go, she makes getting a sock out of an Irish setter’s mouth look easy.

Have you ever played Archery Tag? HINT: It's super hard but SUPER fun. I'm bruised, exhausted and have sand in my bellybutton but it was all worth it. Thank you to 6Pack Beach for hosting our annual Fantasy Football League Game. The place is dope; pro equipment and just really cool staff that don't make you feel like an idiot when the arrow you want to shoot slices your arm apart instead. If you live in the Lower Mainland, you should go check it out. Tell them Shitty Katniss Mom sent you.

Apartment life is an experience. You get to watch your neighbour’s lives, smell their weird roasts, listen to their elephant children clomp around at night, and know they commiserate when they hear the wails of your very tired and persistent 3 year old being dragged down the hallway, the sounds eventually swallowed by the hurried entrance into your unit then the gentle click of a door closing.

It’s cool. We’re all here under one roof, breathing, living, and co-existing.

Our building, because of its family vibe, where it’s situated and the desirable rent, has some rules. We signed contracts to not do or deal drugs, to not prostitute ourselves, to not be engaged in gang activity and absolutely, positively NO PETS.

Especially dog hookers who love meth and murder.

We are all united under these weird rules and, so, it goes.

in the city, your stoop is huge

WELL, THAT WAS A SHIT WEEK.

Seriously.

I had the first physio appointments of my life to address my very first unexplainable body injury. It's foreign in that clinic, me at 36. Because pussy, fat, uncoordinated latch-key kids escape childhood pain and x-rays very successfully when they're eating Skittles on bunk beds while inhaling Bop.

It's a weird pain in my butt that has stopped me from being active. The fear of a nagging and lingering injury casting a shadow over the rest of my life? That fear is deep, and squelching, and terrifying. I worry about all the things. Not being able to pick up my kid, putting weight back on, having to buy and WEAR PROPER SHOES.

And then Robin Williams. It's like the warm porch light of my childhood extinguished.

And then the weirdest weather - dark fat clouds hissing warmth and rain all over the city so it's impossible to breathe and stay dry simultaneously.

Before it all went sideways I took the kid to Cartems Donuts. That was the sweetest highlight of the week. In the days ahead, here's to more of this instead.

Because life is SO FUN, I'm currently managing a weird pain in my right butt cheek that is making my whole leg fizzy AND a head cold just came and shit all over my throat and sinuses.

Hey body, it's August. I'm going to need you to CALM THE FUCK DOWN.

So, I have planned a whole lot of nothing this weekend in anticipation of just laying still while the health fairies nibble me all over. Or something like that.

why i'm not reading your blog {blunt moms}

how was your weekend?

I'm smack dab in the middle of a holiday weekend. Despite the heat squatting over the city, I've been DOING STUFF. Check it.

We went to Crackle Creme Cafe. Yup, a place mostly devoted to many varieties of creme brulee. Here we have earl grey, salted caramel and yuzu.

What a delicious week. Lots of words, triceps burning, happy mouthfuls and hot hot heat. A visit to Earnest Ice Cream is a summer pre-req around these parts. (Get a scoop of salted caramel and a scoop of raspberry and eat and die knowing your stomach will never have anything better.)

This weekend is a long one for us Canadiana. I'm sleeping, running with Team Beat It in Color Me Rad, going to a pool party and catching up with some friends. It's going to be fucking great. Oh, and I just got home from Guardians of the Galaxy, which is so much fun your face will hurt. Whatever you're up to this weekend, I hope your face hurts later. (In a good way. Of course.)

Eww-Pick

As I start this: I’m on my lunch break, at my desk, and I can smell the watermelon my co-worker is eating.

Why this matters: She is upstairs.

I am a fruit bloodhound. Bow down to my nostrils. If the FBI needs to find a killer that likes to cover themselves in macerated berries, they know who to call.

This could just as easily been called Phone It In Friday. Today we're all sucking the last remnants out of the Internet, like the last smidges of meat out of a crab leg, as we keep one eye on the clock. This weekend I am going to see if my kid can ride a balance bike in spite of my genetics, and then I'm sacrificing my Sleep In Sunday to do the Grouse Grind. Please, if you're kind, pray for my soul.
